Or
University or college libraries. You may be surprised
as to how much you can access. At the University near
my place, they have a large amount of jazz guitar instructional
books, like Steve Khans' book on Wes Montgomery and Jim
Halls' book on Jazz Guitar, not to mention every Joe Pass
instructional text you could ever want, and a ton of CD's
to borrow. Also, they have an almost complete set of Down
Beat Jazz magazines. Plus it's fun to check out the musicology
journals to see what is going on in the world of jazz
scholarship.
And if you are not a student, ask the librarian
if it is possible to become a member. Some Universities
will allow a non-student access to borrowing privilidges
for a small fee every semester. It's definitely worth
checking out. Not only will you learn new things, you'll
save money as well.
