That
way you can decide on who you feel is right for your musical
personality and interests. It's like buying clothes or
a car...you usually don't settle for the first thing you
see. You try out things. See what fits best, how things
feel. The role of teacher/student is one that needs to
be developed over time and it should not be ventured into
quickly or without thought.
If all you want is someone
to show you the basic fundamentals of jazz guitar, or
guitar in general, then I would imagine that one teacher
is as good as the next. But if you have a specific goal
in mind, then it's better to find that one person who
can guide you into realizing that goal. And to do this
you will need to look around at your options. Don't be
shy to ask around. If there is a guitar player you like,
then ask them who taught them...or ask if they give lessons
themselves. And don't be nervous to ask a bunch of questions
at your first lesson or to be confident about what you
are looking to accomplish.
You want your experiences to
be positive and a good teacher will go a long way to making
your musical dreams a reality.
