Will the real Eric Johnson please stand up!

I was listening to the best Jazz radio station out there KCSM (in my opinion anyway) and I heard a great track by trumpeter Russell Gunn with a wonderful guitarist who I couldn’t place sonically. When I checked out Russell to see who it was I was very surprised to find out that it was Eric Johnson. Could it be I thought? THE Eric Johnson who plays with a strat and a plethora of amps and tones? Then I thought, “wait a sec”…it’s probably the Eric Johnson who is deeply steeped in the organ trio sound and who has been around for a while. “But wait” I thought…maybe it is the Eric T. Johnson from Boston who sounds like Monk on guitar and who pays tribute to the less known Herbie Nichols and who’s CD’s I will review one day soon. Well, suffice it to say I still have no clue. But whoever it is, it was killer! The tune I heard was “Park Avenue Petite”. Let me know what ya think if you get this CD. I’d be curious to hear the other tracks. Download, Play, Burn MP3s!

The Texan Eric Johnson could play jazz as well, it was the first time I heard of Eric T. Johnson, some interesting lessons on his site as well.
I think the best way to get the answer is from the horse’s mouth. You can try to email Russell Gunn about the guitarist.
