Julian Lage

The one thing that first attracted me to the young Julian Lage was not his playing but his smile. Now before I have all the members of the opposite sex burning their “We Love Lyle” Fan Club cards, let me state that I am still heterosexual and haven’t yet jumped ship. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. No…the reason I was attracted to Julian’s smile was that he was portraying a sense of enjoyment to me that I feel is very important when playing music either as a hobby or for a living. The joy of playing music comes across quite genuine and I think to myself that this is a Guitarist I wanna check out. I mean after all, if he’s enjoying playing that much, then think of how much enjoyment I’ll have listening…:) That being said, he’s a wonderful Jazz Guitarist who has played and written for great artists like Herbie Hancock, David Grisman and Gary Burton who has a knack for finding talented up and coming young Jazz Guitarists. I am looking forward to watching Julian develop as a Guitarist and Composer and I look forward to hopefully getting an opportunity to interview him for Jazz Guitar Life. Given his young age and awesome talent, I’d always be smiling too…:)
