Today is the wonderful Jazz Guitarist Kevin Eubanks birthday. I first heard Kevin on his debut recording “Guitarist” for the great label Elektra/Musician back in the early eighties. It was an awesome record that featured some hot playing by Kevin…especially “Thumb/Blues for Wes” which was just killer. I still listen to it today. I bought his next record “Sundance” which turned out to be more in the fusion bag which was cool, but not what I was looking for. The next thing I knew…albeit a bunch of years later…Kevin was hamming it up on The Tonight Show as Jay Leno’s straight man. He’s a great Jazz Guitarist who still keeps it alive with CD’s and performance’s outside the studio walls. I’m gonna have to check him out again. Happy Birthday Kevin!
