Martin Taylor - Holy F**k
Dec 8th, 2007 by admin
I recently had the pleasure to listen to Martin Taylor’s “In Concert” recorded at the Manchester Craftsman’s Guild and was floored! It’s strictly a solo outing for Martin and his playing his awe-inspiring to say the least. His harmonizing and reharmonizing of standard tunes is prodigious as is his technical command of both the guitar and the music. It’s like crossing Joe Pass with Tuck Andress. Just check out his take on “Stella By Starlight” or the Gershwin’s “I Got Rhythm” to experience the full artistic measure that only a player of the highest regard can bring to the table. You’ll either be jumping out of your chair cheering him on or pawning your guitar in frustration. I stuck with the chair jumping myself but I was pretty close to the pawn shop…:) If you have already checked out “In Concert” then you know what I’m talking about. However, if you haven’t had the pleasure of either listening to the CD or watching the DVD then I think you really owe it to yourself to experience the brilliance that is Martin Taylor. Good listening.

I’m listening to the album now on Rhapsody, and it’s blowing me away. Good frickin grief. Thanks for the suggestion.
Martin is a very good player. My friend Ike Isaacs (died a few years back) used to say that Martin was the best. Ike recorded stuff on his reel to reel with Wes, Joe Pass, Barney Kessel..the list is very very long…and he said Martin was the best he’d ever heard or played with. A very big call, but he meant it. Have you heard him play ‘I get along without you very well’ solo guitar…. it’s all in there. Interesting blog site
