Cal Collins Video Clip #2
Dec 15th, 2007 by admin
The last Cal Collins video I posted turned out to be quite popular so I have added another vid to the collection. This time Cal is the primary featured soloist and man does he play some fine guitar! Check out how he uses his thumb for most of his chords, much like Tal Farlow. And like someone had mentioned, he only uses his first three fingers when he takes a solo, kind of proving that it the ends and not really the means that count. He could play with one finger and I’m sure it would sound just awesome. Check it out and let me know what y’all think. Enjoy!

Great piece of music, I love this style. I love melodic jazz. I am not into jazz, but I do love musical pieces, compared to those conceptual pieces that sometimes I don’t understand.
While in Grad School at the University of Cincinnati I spent many an evening listening to Cal Collins at the the original blue Wisp Jazz Club on Madison Rd. in Obriensville. Backed by the Steve Schmidt trio with Michael Scharfe on bass and the great Baron John Von Olen on Drums, and occasionally Scott Hamilton when he was in town - that was as good as it got my friend.
