Kurt Rosenwinkel Standards Trio - Fall Release
Jun 6th, 2009 by admin

Hey all. I recently received an email from Rosenwinkel’s “peeps” about a new Trio album in the works, so I thought I’d share…:) I look forward to hearing how Kurt handles a trio setting with a standard repertoire. I have no doubt it’s going to be a killer album. I’ll keep you all posted as things develop.
Kurt Rosenwinkel is about to go into the studio again to make a new album - his 8th as a leader. This will happen on June 18, 19 & 20 here in New York City.
This time it will be a trio recording focusing on some of his favorite standards. Kurt hasn’t recorded a trio album since his first album as a leader (”East Coast Love Affair” in 1996) + he hasn’t recorded an album of standards since his 2nd album entitled “Intuit” (1998). And we think you’ll agree that he’s made quite some progress since, so we are very excited in advance about this project!
Another reason for our excitement is the band that will record with Kurt: Eric Revis on bass (Eric is a long-standing member of Branford Marsalis’s band, and has previously toured some with Kurt as well) and Eric Harland on drums (he is obviously the drummer on “The Remedy” and seems to be working with every great jazz musician these days).
Prior to making the recording Kurt + 2x Eric will play 2 concerts: June 16 at The Falcon in Marlboro, NY, as well as June 17 at the old Village Gate now called Le Poisson Rouge here in Manhattan on Bleeker Street. Make sure to come check out the new project if you are close by on any of those dates. You can click here for ticket sales for Le Poisson Rouge ($20 advance/$25 at door):

We hope to have the album ready for release by the time Kurt takes his trio into the Vanguard on Sept. 29 through Oct. 4.
Wishing you all well, and hope to see many of you this summer and fall!
