Jazz Guitar wunderkind Kurt Rosenwinkle will be dropping by the 38th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal to perform in two varied featured performances.
On July 1, Kurt will be adding his unique guitar voice alongside The Bad Plus, which should indeed be an explosive, high energy performance rivaling most rock groups!
Then on July 2, Kurt Rosenwinkel introduces his latest endeavor Caipi to the good people attending the Montreal Jazz Fest where “the most original guitarist-composer of his generation transports us to a dream zone where jazz fuses with tropical pop.”* Or, as Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune reports: “…Rosenwinkel has turned away from most of that (his usual, ed. note) with his newest album, “Caipi,” a radical departure for a midcareer musician who has taken a significant artistic risk. For the music from “Caipi,” which…sounds virtually nothing like what listeners have come to expect from him during the past couple of decades.”** My interest is indeed piqued!
And if you still looking for more Rosenwinkle, on June 18 there’s a showing of a filmed concert from a past visit to the festival with Kurt performing in a solo guitar setting.
