Martin Taylor And Tommy Emmanuel Duo CD Coming!!

Hi all. I just found out, and thought I’d share the news, that Jazz Guitar great Martin Taylor and Acoustic Finger-style phenomenon Tommy Emmanuel are gearing up to record a duo CD in Nashville sometime in July 2012! This is indeed exciting news as both guitarists are true masters in their respective genres. And while their styles may be somewhat different individually, they both share the spirit and energy that comes from improvised music.
And it’s improvised music that has been the cornerstone of Martin’s career since the beginning. Considered to be one of the most innovative chord-melody stylists on the scene today, Martin has been nothing but the utmost consummate musician. He’s also a humanitarian continuously working with a few close to his heart charities.
Of course, Tommy Emmanuel is no stranger to Jazz Guitar as he has recorded and toured with the virtuosic Frank Vignolain a series of legendary concerts that always have the audience wanting more. I have no doubt that a similar set of concerts with Tommy and Martin will do the same…or better!!
The image below is a recent photo of Martin and Tommy jamming at Martin’s house. According to Martin , “Tommy is playing a Martin 017 from 1930, [that] Chet Atkins gave to him. I have a 00045 from 1929 but keep it in a bank vault!” As for the beautiful arch-top Martin is playing: ” The guitar I’m playing in the photo is a Vanden “Martin Taylor Artistry hand built by Mike Vanden in 1999. We designed the guitar together.”
Now, if the above photo is not enough to get you all geared up for what’s to come, check out the video below as Martin and Tommy play a tune before Martin interviews Tommy. A great glimpse into what’s to come.
If you have any comments about this post in particular or either of these two artists in general, please feel free to leaveĀ a comment. I’d love to hear what you have to say. Take care.
